Eagle Lake takes its name from the lake itself. John Bingham, who bought land here in 1880, chose it after watching an eagle nesting in a pine tree by the water. The town was platted in 1887 and incorporated in October 1921, and its early work came from a brickyard, a turpentine mill and two citrus packing houses. It became the City of Eagle Lake in 1975. The lake is still right there on the edge of town.
