ChampionsGate started as a 137-acre tract at the I-4 interchange that RIDA bought in 1987. Building began in 1997, the Greg Norman golf courses opened in 1999, the Omni resort followed in 2004, and the whole thing now covers roughly 3,500 acres in Osceola County. The main entrance sits on Osceola Polk Line Road, CR 532, so the Polk County line is basically across the street from the gate. A lot of the homes here are vacation rentals or second homes, and that is where abandoned cars tend to come from: a tenant moves out and leaves a sedan with expired tags, or an owner who lives up north finally admits the old SUV in the garage is never going to run again.
